Our learners

My name is Mirosława. I’m 67 years old. I was born and I live in  Poznań. I’m married. I have one son. He is 31 years old. Paweł and his Dad graduated from the same university and they both have Ph.D. titles in horticulture.
I’m retired. I went to Dąbrówka high school, where I first encountered English and Latin. Both the languages interested me very much. I liked especially English. I remember how happy I was when I got my first booklet in English. It was entitled ‘Happy Prince’ and it was written by Oscar Wilde. Then came others.
For many years I couldn’t go to English classes. I was very happy when I qualified to English classes at Profutura. I love learning English and despite my age it gives me great pleasure because it makes it easier for me to communicate with a person close to me.

Hi, my name is Ewa. I was born in Poland and I live in Poznań. I don’t work – I am retired. I’ve got a lot of free time. I like listening to classical music, reading books and talking to people. My children live in Great Britain. We travel across Europe and England together. That’s why I learn English. I speak English a little but I understand much more. It’s all very interesting.

My name is Maria. I live in Poznań. I am 70 years old. Now I don’t work, I have been retired for 5 years. I still want to be active. I am involved in social work. I also learn English because I think that English is very useful today. I need English to read English newspapers and books and to communicate with people. I am optimistic and I believe that I can cope with this problem. And I want to talk in English.

My name’s Kasia. I’m from Poland. I live in Bolechówko. It’s a very interesting village, with lots of fields and a forest. There are also three small lakes there. My hobby is my garden. I look after my garden where I have plants and many kinds of vegetables. I learn English because I want to communicate with people.

I’m Jolanta. I am from Poland. I live in Poznań, I was born in Piła in 1951. I have two children: a daughter and a son and one lovely but tiring grandson. I am a widow. I worked as an accountant for 31 years and now I am retired. My daughter is married. Her name’s Monika. My son is a student of the Poznań University of Economics. His name is Kamil. Both my children live in Poznań. In my free time I enjoy surfing the Internet, dancing and learning English. I learn English because I like learning new words and I also I want to travel around the world, so I need English to communicate with people. I am optimistic and cheerful. I am a very open and communicative person.

My name is Mary Gębarowska. I was born in Kościan but I live in Poznań. My mother was a teacher and my father was a pianist. I’m a mathematician. I graduated from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in mathematics. Now I attend classes in the Third Age University and in Profutura. For many years I worked as a teacher of mathematics. I educated many olympian pupils. All that time I had to learn: a postgraduate study, a computer course (at the time, I worked with computers ‘Odra’ and ‘Zam’), a degree of specialisation as well as other methodological courses. Until recently, I worked as an assistant headmistress at a high school and as a maths teacher. This work was very absorbing. There was no time to learn foreign languages.
My knowledge of Russian and German is only passive, and in spite of my higher education I feel poorly educated. I think that at present English is necessary. It is a window to the world, especially for young people. I want to travel around the world, so I need English to communicate with people. I have always wanted to speak English. Profutura makes it possible for us. The equipment is modern here. I only wish that all schools had such an array of language tools. The teachers are well-trained and very nice. Classes aren’t overcrowded, and there is a family atmosphere.
I am interested in music, dance, cinema and opera. I also like nordic walking. Through my participation in the course, I expanded my circle of friends with similar interests. After school, we go together to the cinema, opera, dance classes. We have a very good time together.
Thank you for allowing me to be here – learning in such conditions.

I want to read English poetry in original, therefore I have to learn the English language. The second reason is that my son told me to learn English to be more intelligent because he doesn’t like stupid people.

My name is Urszula. I have lived in Poznań since I was born. I worked as a maths teacher for 30 years and now I am retired. After I retired, I've always had some temporary jobs because I think that working and learning extends my life.
I'd like to travel all over the world because I am learning English and Italian. My knowledge of foreign languages allows me to communicate in everyday situations. I'd like to speak fluent English.
I've been interested in classical music since my childhood and I listen to every good kind of music. I like to hike in the mountains and three or four times a month I do yoga. I don't watch TV because there are many poor quality cartoons, films, shows, commercials, and lots of violence on TV.
