The Journey to Adana
Several of the participants at the Adana meeting had lengthy and complex outward and return journeys. Three of the partners added extra time to their visit to Turkey in order to visit Istanbul - and one partner travelled to Adana by train from istanbul.
Here are some pictures relating to that journey.
Having left a cold Britain it was rather amusing to discover that Istanbul was almost invisible being covered in mist and suffering strong northerly winds and heavy snow.
Here is the famous Galata Bridge - which usually is full of fishermen.

It was almost impossible to see anything because of the weather.
The World famous Sultan Ahmet Mosque had almost disappeared

The night trains (on the left to Adana and the other to Ankara) also showed evidence of the severe winter weather

Though the journey is rather slow (18 hours for c.950 kms) it is delightful - especially in the winter snows.
The train attendant was waiting to show travellers to their warm and very comfortable sleeping compartment

The train climbed into Central Anatolia and the morning produced some wonderful views of the hills and mountains

Eventually, towards sunset the train approached the Taurus Mountains

There was one final stop in the hills whilst the train waited for another to ascend on the single line and eventually pass us - it provided a chance for some exercise and a minor snowball fight.

Throughout the journey we were able to rely on the superb staff on the train - all of whom made the experience very special:

To them we say, with hand on heart: Teşekkür ederim
